The CAPCH is founded on the belief the Canadian Health System should inform, empower and support each person as the manager of their wellbeing, and all Canadians should have access to a defined, publicly funded level of care and service. We believe there is a need for a national not-for-profit grassroots organization, like the CAPCH, that speaks for the people.
Our philosophy is that our health system should be “people-centred” rather than driven by political goals, professional and special interest groups, or social ideologies. The CAPCH advocates more involvement by the average Canadian in their healthcare so that we all become the strategic architects of our own system – “a people-model” health system.
This idea of people-centred healthcare can be built upon the strong and enviable system Canada already has in place. Our country is stuck using an illness system to take care of its people. It is time to recognize health is about more than illness. It is about prevention, wholistic view, and wellness and there is a need to define all of these. It is about people striving to become all they are capable of with respect to a personally defined balance of mental, physical, spiritual and emotional wellbeing.
Canadians deserve a health system that supports each person on a personal journey to wellness. CAPCH’s purpose is to research and share ideas about ways to make the health system more responsive to the needs of the people, to encourage all stakeholders to build from consensus and to, at all times, put the health needs of people first.
