The Organization

  • An emerging national, not-for-profit, grassroots association committed to researching, designing, sharing, and implementing proposals to make Canada’s health system more responsive to the needs of the people.
  • Established to: research and share ideas for the creation of a patient-driven vision for the evolution of the Canadian health system; be a voice for the patient/client on policy and create a platform for the patient/client voice to be heard.

The Request

  • Financial support that will assist the association in meeting its goals of facilitating meaningful, people-centred reform of the Canadian health system
  • Partnerships which will support our mutual interests

The Synergies

  • CAPCH is focused on engaging interested Canadians in building a health system which gives each person the right to make informed choices about how to sustain a healthy state for themselves.
  • The CAPCH is committed to supporting a health system which:
    • Is responsive to individuals’ needs and desires;
    • Encourages personal responsibility;
    • Facilitates open information exchange;
    • Protects the right to choose;
    • Respects self-definitions of quality
  • CAPCH respects and supports Canadians’ desire to ensure that no person faces financial hardship or dislocation because of health-related problems.  However, CAPCH believes that public support must be provided within limits that are clearly defined and which allow each person to make informed choices which best serve their needs whether inside, or outside, of the defined parameters of the publicly funded system
  • CAPCH believes that the private sector has had, and will continue to have, a valuable role to play and a legitimate interest in the evolution of the health system

The Return

  • A concrete way to contribute to people-driven health system reform by helping support a credible, non-affiliated forum for people to express their views
  • Support for new, influential voices who will advocate actively for reforms with which the organization agrees and a potential partner for collaborative efforts
  • A relevant contribution to the organization’s existing community investment program

The Broader Benefits

  • Helping citizens overcome institutional barriers to building healthier, more productive lives
  • Building a culture of health which embraces knowledge transfer and permits choices to be made by those most affected by the decisions

The Needs

  • CAPCH is in its nascent stages.  In order to become more active and meet its goals, it requires stable, predictable, multi-year financial support.
  • To this point, any funds raised have been utilized to support the development and communication of the people-centred healthcare reform concept to a wide variety of contacts.
  • The concept has been widely embraced by a cross-section of interested citizens and organizations.  Now it is time to transition the organization into an active player in the healthcare reform debate.
  • Initial estimates are that it will cost approximately $600,000 per annum to support a fully functional association which can support the programs it needs to bring the vision to life.
    Supporting the Cause
  • Financial commitments of any amount and in any form will be accepted gratefully and put to good use.  However, CAPCH urges you to consider a multi-year undertaking in the range $10-50 thousand per year in order to help us meet our financial objectives as quickly as possible.
  • Funding support can be structured in a variety of ways.  Some suggested approaches are as follows:
    • Donations / Grants
    • Purchases of copies of "Journey to Wellness", a book written by the association’s founder which outlines the principles and tenets behind building a people-centred health system
    • Supplemental contributions when participating in, sponsoring or attending association events

Recognizing the Contributions

  • CAPCH is conscious of the need to ensure that all contributors are acknowledged and thanked for their support
  • Once again, there are a variety of ways that this can be achieved depending on the needs of the contributor.  Some potential examples include:
    • Recognition in association publications, speeches and public displays
    • Inclusion of a web link on the CAPCH website
    • Appearances at corporate meetings / functions
